Guidelines for Transportation LibGuides: Getting Started

Design and content guidelines for TPF-5(237) LibGuides authors.

Welcome!

This is what your Home page will look like. Three columns with a few common boxes. Transportation LibGuides authors, use this page to learn how to manage your account and set up your profile. Your Welcome box should contain your library's department's logo.

Already have a profile? Click the Create a Guide tab and others to learn how to create LibGuides content.

The Transportation Library Connectivity & Development Pooled Fund Study is a consortium of libraries in the DOTs and UTCs working cooperatively to enhance library services among it's membership. We serve our members and the entire transportation information community with products and services we design and select for tangible, lasting benefits for librarians and researchers.

Managing Your LibGuides Account

Logging in:

  • Go to the LibGuides main page at http://guides.libraryconnectivity.org/
  • In the upper right corner, click on Admin Sign In.
  • Enter your email address and your LibGuides password.
    • If you've forgoten your password, contact LibGuides Administrator (me), to have it reset.
    • Note: You can also click on Admin Sign In from any LibGuides page, then click on My Admin on the yellow command bar at the top to manage your account.
  • This will take you to your main administration page where you can create, edit, and delete guides and create and edit your profile.

Changing your password:

  • From your main administration page, go to Edit My Account.
  • Enter a new password and click on Save Changes.

Setting Up/Editing Your Profile

To create or edit your profile, click on Customize My Profile from your main administration page. Enter or edit information in the following boxes:

Profile Box Title: This can be your title (i.e. Communication Librarian) or something generic like "Subject Librarian".) Whatever it is, keep it short so that it fits in the narrow column
Profile Shortcut:
(Optional)
Enter a shortcut name here for your profile page, if you want.  Your profile page lists your guides and shows your contact information, subject specialties, etc.
Profile Image: Upload an image of yourself from your computer.
Display Name: Enter your name as you want it to appear in your profile box.
Contact Info: Enter your phone number, location, and other contact information. Hit enter to start a new line. (Note that there are separate boxes to enter your e-mail address, website or blog, and instant messaging name.)
Email: Enter your e-mail address.
Subject Specialty: Enter the subject areas you cover.
Website/Blog:
(Optional)
If you have a website or blog you want to link to, enter the URL here.

 

If chat software is allowed through your firewall and you want to add it to your profile, please select a client that is compatible with several others for use on LibGuides. Paste the code in the box marked Chat Widget Code.  The chat box will appear by default on all your guides' pages, as well as in your profile.

Your LibGuides Profile

Your profile appears in the right-hand column of each of your LibGuides pages (by default, and we would like all of our pages to look similar) as well as on your main profile page. It includes an image, contact information, a list of the subject areas you cover, and other information.
